Stuff that works. And a few disappointments.
by Volker Weber
Lots of things coming in (and going out) at vowe's magic flying circus. Here a few things that I use day in and day out:
- MacBook Pro 13" Retina. This machine came in a year ago and I love it. If I only had a single computer, this would be it. Highly recommended over anything else.
- Dyson vacuum cleaners. We use both a DC30 (3 years old) and DC62 (1 year old) every single day. The big DC20 (7 years old) is still working, but gets a lot less usage. Battery power wins.
- iPhone 6 Plus. Surprise Winner. Before this machine came out, I have used Lumias day in and day out. Bigger battery, bigger screen, excellent camera, always the latest software.
- Sonos. Period.
- Plantronics. I have not seen a single bad product coming out of this company. Latest member of the family is the BackBeat Pro. I am loving it.
- Blackberry. With 10.3 and the Passport, apps are no longer an issue. The Amazon Appstore provides all the little things that were missing from BlackBerry World. I always loved the hardware and the operating system.
A number of things have gotten less usage than before.
- iPads and other tablets. With the Lumia 1520 and later the iPhone 6 Plus I went back to using the phone for everything.
- Sonos controllers. Since going back to the iPhone and having an app on BlackBerry, there hardly ever is a need to fetch the Sonos controller. And I got my start/stop button.
- Lumia. Microsoft keeps moving ahead, but only at glacial speed. 2014 was disappointing, to say the least. Still waiting for enhancements presented four months ago.
- Individual transport on wheels. I have walked further than the combined distance travelled on bicycle, scooter and car.
- Social networks. I stopped posting on Facebook and Google+. I hardly ever go there to lurk. I use Twitter, but mostly as a news channel. Some Instagram usage. I enjoy browsing Ello, but do not post enough to be considered active.
Biggest disappointment: Sonos on Windows Phone. I really expected them to deliver in the spring. Then summer, then fall. But Microsoft has only recently started to test an Alpha internally. It's still far away and the progress matches that of the Windows Phone platform.

Only today that I bought more Sonos. From Thomas. Period.
Similar thoughts here, minus the things I never tried (Lumia, BB).
I can almost see a Dyson in my future ;)
