Old heroes never die. They become strategic products, are put into maintenance mode in India, and then are pitched by spammers.

Very sad - I remember the SmartSuite as actually being a pretty good product. It was integrated a lot better than the MS stuff, with the dialogs being a lot more consistent across the different applications. But very early on, Lotus's own Notes support for MS Office was better than that for SmartSuite, and after years of waiting for an OS/2 version that was on par with the Windows stuff, probably everybody ceased to believe in its future.
Sad, sad, sad.

Why hasn't IBM published SmartSuite as OpenSource? I can't believe they made any significant turnover on SmartSuite in the last 5 years...

two reasons:
1) Too much licensed software -- it wasn't all written in house, so it can't be unilaterally open-sourced
2) It's (still) a bigger business than you think.

It is a bigger seller in Europe than US, from what I hear.

SmartSuite 9.6 is an old old version, they're up to 9.8.1 now.

SmartSuite is still a good product, and profit pre head is probably one of the most profitable businesses in IBM's software division.

I still use it, and with the benefits of PDFs for customers, they never know what it was created in.

Was that a compliment about India? http://www.ncti-india.com/TradeConnect/TrdConSep33.htm
