Nikon D70 review

Phil Askey publishes his long awaited D70 review. I am sitting on the fence regarding the purchase of a new camera. I have had it for small and not very capable digicams. I believe the low end of that market is merging with phones and PDAs into a new personal companion.

If you want to take some good photos you will need a more traditional camera. The EOS 300D (a.k.a. Digital Rebel) is out of the question for me. The fake-metal body and the crippled software don't cut it for me. But there are other contenders like the Sigma SD10 currently on sale at Amazon, or a non-SLR camera like the Canon Powershot Pro1 which wins hands down against the Sony DSC-F828.

Choices. :-)

I've got one since Saturday and I love it.

I went round and round on a new camera too, coming from a Fuji S1 (Nikon mount). I ended up spending more than I wanted but I am very, very happy with the Nikon D100. Since I eBay'd the S1, I did not have any other Nikon lenses so I chose a cheaper lens set (Sigma macro/35-90mm & zoom 80-300mm). At my level, I'm not convinced that I deserve Nikon glass!

My friend owns the Canon 10D and loves it just as much but she already owns Canon lenses. If you go for one of these, just let me know and I'll give you a short pro's and con's list. Oh, I also invested in a few SanDisk Ultra II CF cards because I hated waiting with the S1.

Good luck!
