And here's to you Mrs. Robinson

by Volker Weber

This spot is banned from airing in the U.S. In a reprise of "The Graduate," crafted into an Audi ad for the German market, Dustin Hoffman is once again locked out of the church, trying to rescue the would-be bride. Except this time it's his daughter. All dialogue is in German. She says "Thank you, dad" and he replies "You are like your mother". The original movie's theme song, "Mrs. Robinson," plays in the background but is a cover by the Lemonheads rather than the original by Simon and Garfunkel.

Can somebody enlighten me, why this spot would be banned in the US?

Jens-Christian Fischer, 2004-04-15

Sorry, but only *.asf?! Its boring....

H. Heigl, 2004-04-15

I don't think it's really "banned". For a US actors it's like the end of the career when the start to make tv-ads.
It's more for image reasons.
So in the US nobody knows "Mix it, baby" Arnie, Leonardo diCaprio driving a Toyota (broadcasted only in the asian area), David Bowie with Vittel water...

Does anybody have another link than to an ASF file...

Schweppes, 2004-04-15

VLC plays .asf files. ASF Recorder saves them to your local disk.

Is that really Dustin Hoffman speaking German?

Ken Porter, 2004-04-15

No, of course not. All foreign movies are dubbed for the German market. That is "his" German voice speaking.

Volker Weber, 2004-04-15

Tobias, do you have links for those other ads? I'd love to see them.

Esther Schindler, 2004-04-15

Esther, first of all the Arnie spot

I hope the link works...

I'm still looking for the other spots.
