iPod your Bimmer

by Volker Weber

Apple has released a web page that details what you can do with an iPod and your BMW. It's got to be a 2002 and later 3 Series, X3 or X5 tank, Z4 or a Mini. You put the iPod on a loose cable in the glove compartment. I assume it is dumbed down to a CD changer, because you can only play five BMW playlists from your stereo. And that's not all:

Not available on vehicles with navigation system, CD changer, DSP cassette player or satellite radio. Installation performed by authorized BMW and BMW SAV centers only.

That would not earn the editor-refuses-to-give-it-back award. :-)

This implementation seems a bit lame to me; but atleast it is something. Perhaps future releases with work on better integration like a cradle in the glove box, and displaying the track name on the dash display ( vs. saying TR 7 ).

What would be really fun is if you could stear the BMW via the iPod scroll wheel!
