Looking into the distortion field
by Volker Weber
There was no webcast and no satellite broadcast of Steve's ceremony keynote yesterday. Which kind of helps to stay out of the reality distortion field. So, what are the news?
- Three new screens. Finally a match for the G5. One of them is really, really huge — and expensive. But ladies, this isn't rocket science. Apple does not make the screens. They design the enclosure. The glas is made by Samsung, or LG, or ... If Apple had not been sitting on warehouses full of old screens, there is hardly anything that could have taken them so long to come out with the two "smaller" screens at the same time as the G5.
- Tiger, a new version of the operating system. In the first half of 2005. That can be as much as one year from today, with one day to spare. I see a number of reports that Apple users are now able to read their RSS feeds in Safari. Hello? This isn't now. It's quite a long way out actually.
- Tiger server. Also due out next year. I am not going into details, but amongst them is a blog server.
There is very interesting technology in Tiger. You can see most of it in Apple's online demo, some of it as video. The eye candy, you can buy today for $25. Redmond Cupertino, start your photocopiers.

Regarding the "eye candy" I found
http://www.russellbeattie.com/notebook/1007900.html quite interesting. I'm quite new to this whole "apple-is-so-cool" thing, so I can't really tell if he's right.
30 Inch monitors? When will come the 50 Inch ;-) ?
Re eye candy, yes there certainly is an element of ripping off Konfabulator here.
However, “widgets” also reminds me of something far closer to home at Apple: anyone else remember “desktop accessories”?
Pls. post when the downloadable version of the keynote-stream is available! ThX :-)
Just go to the WWDC page on the Apple site. The keynote is linked-to right there.
No kidding? Same thing under "webcast". :-)
That’s the one :-D
