This is obviously useless, but great fun. As Sebastian Krauß has pointed out, there is a ASCII Movie Player Sample available at Apple's developer site. And indeed, it does work. :-)

... reminds me that you can save videos from any source you have codecs for into an animated gif with 'mplayer' even if ASCII is much smaller of course. You might want to take a look at my example. (4.6 MB!)
Did you purposely activate your Directory Listing, Stefan?
I recommend to protect your index at least by a "index.html"-file, so that not everybody is able to scan your files too easily =o)

There's the ASCII art libary (http://www.gnu.org/directory/graphics/2d/aalib.html in the GNU software map). There also is an actual demo (in sense of demo, ref: http://www.scene.org/tips.php) in aalib which is quite nice, especially if you're into the matter. *sigh* good ol' times...
