Garbage in, garbage out

by Volker Weber

Reuters reports:

BERLIN (Reuters) - Attempts to persuade young Britons that Germany is cool have made little progress, and many still associate the country with Adolf Hitler, beer and soccer, a survey showed Thursday.

I am not surprised. I have never seen so much WWII-inspired entertainment and so many Nazi Uniforms on TV as during my last 2 weeks in the UK.

Volker, I'm sad to say that this is the default association I had always made until visiting last year.

I expected to have a bad time of it actually. It was with great surprise that I found Munich and the Bavarian countrysite one of the most friendly, fun, and attractive places I've ever been. Turns out, the area very much reminded me of where I live in Maine once you got outside the city proper.

And you visited at the worst time of the year. If I recall this correctly you were here THIS year in March.

You have beer?!? I'm coming over!

@Colin: We have the best beer in the world :-)

German beer is indeed pretty good ;o) Speaking as a Brit, I enjoyed Berlin very much when I went there some four years ago. I’m just sorry that the UK so often succumbs to the worst tabloid excesses when it comes to portraying Europe in the media.

we're more alike than they think - i always associate Great Britain with the Monarchy, Beer and Soccer.
