That wasn't original. I just remember hearing it go around, but not clear who said it first..
"Unix /is/ user friendly. It's just a bit decisive about who its friends are." (which is believed to be said by Dennis Ritchie himself)
Anyway, it becomes pretty obvious, that the only modern operating system, which is stable, safe and secure, was designed in the '70s by some folks who never wanted it to be a commercial success. Apparently this is the driving force behind writing good software - no commercial pressure, no ties, no marketeers - and a lot of good-willing folks that contribute.
