The amazing thing about freedom of speech is how people only ever claim it for things they say themselves, and never for other people with whom they don't agree.
Saying that, the original statement was in bad taste. Mr Brooker should attend classes on just how much irony his readers (in particular those from the US) are capable of understanding.
