Flickr Pro members get some benefits

by Volker Weber

You may have heard on the grapevine that we planned to reward our dear Flickr members who bought a Pro Account in the early days. Well, it's true! And since you're one of those lovely people, here's a little something to say YOU ROCK!
  1. Double what you paid for!
Your original 1 year pro account has been doubled to
2 years, and your new expiry date is ...
  2. More capacity!
Now you can upload 2 GB per month.
  3. 2 free Pro Accounts to give away to your friends!
This won't be activated for a day or two, but when it is, you'll see a note on your home page telling you what to do.

I have not paid for a Pro account so I am not eligible for these benefits, but I think it is a very cool move by Flickr.

Update: Flickr has also upgraded the free accounts from 100 to 200 pictures and from 10 meg/month upload to 20. At the same time they slashed the price for the Pro account to $25/year, which in fact is the reason that early subscribers get two years instead of one.

smile this sounds just like the gmail giveaways ;). i'd like one, too *duck*.

I'd rather argue that it's not so much a cool move, but a smart one (who is uploading 1 gig a month anyway?): once you are in, it's very hard to ever get out again (you fall back to the free status if you won't renew leaving behind the 24 gig of photos if you were busy uploading)

It's a really smart move, they make their paying customers happy, and in the process triple their membership almost overnight. With the hope that a large percentage will choose to pay for membership in a year.

Early birthday present for my Dad :-)

Dear Sir,
I am Chiayu Peng from China,
I begun using Flickr to store and share my digital photoes not long ago.
I have a digital camra of myself, and I take a lot of photoes every month.
But, a free Flickr account can only upload a limited photoes, just 20M, it is not enough for me.
I tried to upgrade to a Pro account, but I have no International credit card such as Visa or Discovery Card to pay the money.
So if you have enough money, can you please buy me a Pro account.
Thank you so much if you could help.
