Idiot admin

by Volker Weber

I have disturbing news for this admin: If a mail contains malware, it is not necessarily originating from the sender's address. And it does not really help sending brazillions of notifications.

Why admins still have their email servers send these messages anymore is really beyond me. Have there been any cases of malicious emails actually originating with the listed sender in the last 3 years?Since average computer users are just learning to discern spam from legitimate mail, these messages tend to cause undo panic.

Old news, but an increasing irritant in the past few days (the result of the latest Sober worm).

Overnight here we have no fewer than 54 "you sent a virus" bounces all arriving within a one minute period from a single misconfigured MTA. This is as well as the constant drip of similar bounces from AOL.

Fortunately, we have a very reliable rule server mail which prevents delivery to our users and avoids undue panic.
