SnowInHamburg20060305

Hamburg, Germany, Sunday 4:30 pm: Taken 15 minutes ago with my Nokia cellphone cam. It's snowing non-stop since this morning. From time to time you are not able to see the buildings on the other side of the street. Normally we have winter for about 2-3 days. Not for 3 months.

Comments

Stefan has some real snow.

Yeah! The Bavarians ...

Cem Basman, 2006-03-05

I feel sorry for you guys but it looks like you are just living in the wrong place.

This is what we are doing here in the meawhile... :)

BTW Wolker, yes, we lost that race by a great amount.

Pieterjan Lansbergen, 2006-03-05

Can we switch places, Pieterjan? Pls?

Cem Basman, 2006-03-05

We also had 'some' snow here.

I just love snow. Even when I was studying in Furtwangen, I couldn't get enough of it. :) Too bad it's already melting away...

Florian Sander, 2006-03-05

More attention needed trimming the sails, PJ, and less on the ice chest ;-).

If you can't stand it anymore, I could recommend some hotels here. Or for tough folks there is a guest mattress.
:-) stw

P.S.: Wouldn't mind some days with snow

Well, over here (north-east Switzerland), we had about 70cm (28in) within 24hrs over the weekend. In front of my house, my car is covered in snow. The top line of the snow doesn't give you the slightest hint there's a car underneath. Just to make sure it's still there and nobody smacks a shovel against it, I dug two holes in the snow to show where the front and rear ends are... Digging out my girlfriend's car took us about an hour on Sunday.

The weather people say it's been the worst snow since they started recording in 1944.

Ragnar Schierholz, 2006-03-06

Ragnar: Back in Furtwangen, cars hidden under snow weren't so unusual. A fellow student once forgot to mark his car. It was then destroyed by a huge snow blower.

So it was a really wise decision to dig the holes to mark your car. :)

Florian Sander, 2006-03-06

@Florian: Furtwangen is not so far away from here, so I figure they might have comparable conditions over ther. There won't be any snow plows approaching my car though, since it's a private drive way. Considering my car being hit, I'm glad about that, considering I have to shovel myself, I'm not :-)

Ragnar Schierholz, 2006-03-06

This morning I had to pick (ice) and shovel (snow) my car free. And now 9 hours later all the snow and ice is gone ...

Cem Basman, 2006-03-06

I'd be really happy if I could say the same. But the weather forecast now again predicts snow for wednesday and thursday.

Will the weather interfere with CeBit?

Phoenix has snow about once every ten years. It's never more than a half inch, and melts within a half hour. The last time it happened, it was amusing to watch everyone on our street run outside with a digital camera. There we were, taking pictures of snow on the saguaro... dressed in shorts and sandals.

I lived in Maine for nearly 7 years. I don't miss snow at all!

Esther Schindler, 2006-03-06

Q: "Will the weather interfere with CeBit?"
A: " Certainly. Same procedure as every year ..."
