Remark from Christian Heindel as a flickr note about craigslist on this list:
Wondering how this would express in per capita added value.

Good question, but have you ever been on Craigslist or are a user?
The thing is so ugly it's unbelievable, but if has been offering for years and years the possibility to buy, sell, barter, personal Ads, etc. at no cost. As of 1999 it charges businesses and sells T-Shirts.
So here is "Hats off" to Craigslist who hast got the most popular ugly website out there.

Yeah. Different markets definately need different designs and user interfaces... :-)
Steffen, mentioning "ugly design", why ugly design works -at least according to Robert Scoble.
Ebay has 11k employees?!?!
I've used Craigslist to find work, to look at housing options (when I was considering a move to San Francisco), for all sorts of things. Yes, it's bare metal, but it's *fast* and functional.
"bare metal" is a very good term, Esther ;) - It's just amazing that they are only running the complete busiess with 18 people. If this is true of coz.
