Apple updates Boot Camp
by Volker Weber
Boot Camp 1.1 has a number of interesting enhancements:
- Support for the latest Intel-based Macintosh computers
- Easier partitioning using preset buttons for popular sizes
- Ability to install Windows XP on any internal disk
- iSight camera support
- Built-in microphone support
- Right-click when pressing the right-hand Apple key on Apple keyboards
- Improved Apple keyboard support including Delete, PrintScreen, NumLock, and ScrollLock keys
Those enhancements, especially driver support for iSight* and the internal microphone, make Windows more usuable on Apple hardware. However, I would still go for virtualisation instead of dual boot. The download went from 83 MB to 202 MB.
*) Just a thought. Maybe you can extract the driver and use it with a Firewire-attached iSight and a PC?

Very interesting...no support for the USB modem yet though :(
Still lusting after an Apple laptop...dam you Steve Jobs and your cute OS!
thank You, yes I prefer Parallels!

Iirc I could just plug my external iSight into the XP machine and use the video part without problem. So I'd assume that the driver is for the internal iSight only and because the microphone on the MacBook isn't (afaik) coupled to the iSight, my guess is that the driver won't support the microphone of external iSights.

As far as I know, the internal iSight is a USB device, so I assume the driver won't work.
Matthias, I just checked. You are right, the internal iSight is a USB device.
Stefan, have you plugged it in? We tried when the iSight was released and Windows XP would not recognize it. Apple also told us they had no plans for a Windows driver.
Colin, your lust for an Apple computer is strange. You seem to be a Windows user and there are better Windows machines out there, like the ex-IBM Thinkpad T. Regarding the modem: Can you move your internet access to a router? Maybe with broadband instead of dialup? I consider 3G wireless access, which is much faster than a dialup modem, only a temporary solution.

Works as described - and I've got the picture to prove it. Well, Volker has, too. ;)
