Lotusphere now "formally" expanded to 5 days

by Volker Weber

To accommodate growing expectations for people productivity software, Lotusphere -- perhaps the only technical conference old enough to have both tradition and continuity -- is formally expanding from four full days to five with its 2007 sessions. This coming year, the 14th annual Lotusphere will begin Sunday morning January 21 and end Thursday, the 25th.

In 2006 it already looked to me like it ran for five days. But now it has "formally expanded".

I like this quote:

Lotusphere 2007 will be the 14th annual conference. "You know," jokes Marcus, "in technology, 14 years is like 14 years to a dog -- it’s a rare age."

It will be my 11th, plus 3 in Germany.

I am a bit confused by all the talk of how it is now officially five days. I gave a Jumpstart at Lotusphere in Jan. 2001, and I don't remember if that was even the first year they had them, so that would be six years at least that there have been Jumpstarts on Sunday. I am confused, unless it is simply to justify the extra money they are charging...

Since the opening general session will still be on Monday (and I presume that the welcome party will still be Sunday night), it's really hard to tell what this means. Will there still be a BDDay on Sunday? Or is that replaced by the "formal" sessions?

A bit of marketing smoke to justify the price hike methinks..
