Wot, no 3G? Uh? And the point of this 'phone is? (or will there be a real version for Europe?)
No 3G. Funny thing however is that the 8707 (UMTS) is slower than the 8700G (EDGE).
Who needs 3G?
This one, however, comes with that laptop modem connectivity you said you were looking for:
Tethered Modem
Get online where you want to. You can upload and download large files using your BlackBerry® Curve™ 8300 smartphone as a wireless modem for your laptop — no matter where life takes you.*
Go ahead, browse the web and exchange files - and do it at the speed of broadband.
Asad, the 8100 and 8800 have the same capabilities. But you need the PC software to use it.
As far as I know, you only need the PC software (BlackBerry Desktop Manager) if you connect the device via USB cable. If you are using the BlackBerry via Bluetooth as a Modem, then the PC software is not needed. This way it even works with a Mac - without any additional 3rd party software. The Bluetooth Dial-Up Network profile is available on all BlackBerry devices with 64MB Ram and OS 4.2.0 or newer. Marco, in this scenario - BB as a BT modem - 3G would be nice to have.
Does that hold true if your BB is protected with a password?
As long as the device is paired via Bluetooth and configured as a trusted device it will work even if the device is protected with a password. I did not yet test if it works while the device is locked. I assume that it works in this case too.
why not get a nokia E61i and install blackberry connect on it????
larger device in hand but complete connectivity
