Quickr: first impressions
by Volker Weber
After getting access to the Greenhouse I was finally able to test drive Quickr. Here are my first impressions:
Quickr wants a plugin. I am surprised the Create button/menu has survived usability testing.
Firefox 2.0.4 does not like the plugin.
Quickr wants to open a pop-up. You can't be any more Web 1.0 than with pop-ups.
Connectors are Windows only. Witness the .msi extension in the status bar. Quickr without Connectors is Quickplace. Only more colorful.
I think I need to find a place with some content. Filling the test place up without a connector is going to take ages. Who came up with Quickr in the first place? Too me it looks Slowr. :-)

Volkr Webr, you'r a good testr, writr, promotr and connectr with an awful lot of humr...
Cem, you are a commentor with an aweful lack of vowels ;-)
Is that why awful got an extra e? :-)
Kind of... I bought that at Wheel Of Fortune and didn't know a better place than somewhere where it's desperately needed :-)
I've spent so much time on the Domino version I didn't know about the plugin thing on the portal side - have to go check that out on a PC and see if the same is true. Same with popups, there aren't any on the Domino side. Connectors are Windows only true, the first release depends on the Windows namespace for resolution. I bet others are not far behind as the server side is web services, client side is just $$$ and time to develop.
I was also looking forward to the Connectors and as far as I can say after my first look, they are working well under Windows.
But also under Windows I've got to deal with some interesting problems. My Firefox 2.0.0.4 doesn't show the button for "Working offline". IE 7 does, but after clicking it, I'm receiving some errors and I'm not able to go offline. I will check this and do some more testing. Hopefully it's me who causes the problems. Otherwise I need to wait for Quickr 8.0.1...

I have my doubts about that. The main Connector, the functionality that integrates the document repository with Windows Explorer, is directly from the old Workplace client stuff. It was Windows-only then, and I reckon it will stay that way, at least until there’s a real commercial need to do more than Windows.
@Ben - or an opportunity (business partner or otherwise). The REST API on the server side opens it up a bit, doesn't it? I haven't looked into this but I think it's more open than before.
Quickr...is Quickplace. Only more colorful.
Quickr is the Cadillac Cimarron of team collaboration software...
