WindowsMobile 6 Update for Treo 750 and 750V

by Volker Weber

Good news: it's free, it upgrades UMTS to HSDPA.

Bad news: currently only available in English and for Vodafone-branded (read 750v) devices, "one download per customer", and a biggie:

Palm Windows Mobile 6 does not support the Blackberry Connect (BBC) service

A German version is said to be available by the end of September.

My 750v came without a sync cable, so no update to WM6 for me, even though I'd love it (WM6 has HTML e-mail, and IRM support!). I am returning it to Vodafone anyway since after three replacements, I still cannot get more than 20 hours of service out of it - and that's with just Direct Push enabled, and less than 20 minutes of phone calls. Of course you can just disable UMTS and use GPRS instead, but then why buy a UMTS smartphone that advertises with 240 hours of standby operation?

"The job isn't done until Blackberry won't run" ... sounds familiar.
Is that a Palm specific issue or is that a general WM6 issue?

I honestly don't know. BBC is not a product RIM is particularly proud of. They are currently working on a "virtual BlackBerry" which is supposed to run on WM6. Good has something like this, and I don't really like that either.
