Removing a wasp's nest

Volker, you're a real report at heart.

You go into harms way to provide us with this shot. Thank you!

;-)

Interesting btw. My landlord told me that it is not permitted to remove these nests until they are in the neighborhood of a kindergarten or similar.

But who knows. Maybe this is just a cover story and they were actually trying to contain the radiation in your backyard?!

I used a long lens. ;-)

And the wasps are just being relocated.

So you use a vacuum cleaner of some sorts ? That must suck for the wasps!
(yes, I know, it's a stupid joke - still made *me* grin though).

Seriously, in Belgium, there is no law to protect them (there is one for bees though) and you are free to exterminate them. There are a few recommendations to keep them if they are in remote places, as they also have a useful function in eating other insects, but in our small gardens here, it's almost always too close for comfort...

It was an interesting procedure. You connect the vacuum cleaner to the brown box. Then you suck the wasps into this box. There is another brown box around the smaller one. You put the old nest into the larger box and close the outer box and seal it. Once the outer box is placed at the new location, you unseal it and all the wasps can go out an in as they please. At this time you better leave the scene. :-)

The trick is to make as many wasps as possible to leave the nest so that you can vacuum them up. Knocking on the nest with a stick helps. They do get angry when you do that though. :-))

So thats when you crank up the vacuumer?

Pimp your vacuum cleaner ??

Had a wasps nest in one of my outbuildings the contents which I needed to clear. Mine were obliging wasps as they had built their nest (or is it a bite (sp)) already in a box. So my removal method was drink a couple of beers while pondering what to to do. Using new found courage gained from the beers close box, pick up box , go quickly to another part of garden, open box and run like hell.

Strangely I have not seen my method recommended anywhere else.

Ah. Here in the UK we're allowed to kill the little buggers. So with some wasp nest killer, we can spray the nest.. Thankfully, it has a 3m range, so you dont have to get tooooooo close.
