Nokia halts development of BlackBerry Connect

by Volker Weber

BlackBerry Connect (BBC) is currently available for 9300(i), 9500, E50, E51, E60, E61(i), E62, E65, E70 and E90. And that is the end of the line. No BBC for E66 or E71, or any future Nokia smartphone. Yes, I have asked Nokia and this is their official statement.

Bollocks. What else is there - that's any good?

Volker, do you know if this means that the platforms for which BBC is currently provided will be continue to be supported (as the phone software is upgraded?)

John Ash, 2008-07-29

Yes. Existing devices will be supported through their life cycle.

Not an expert in this field by no means. But I'm using Nokia Intellisync Suite against a Domino Mail server (I'm an IBMer) , and this gives me Push email, Calendar and contacts. Not sure what is the upside of using BBC over Nokia Intellisync ?

Maybe RIM has indicated that their virtual BlackBerry thingie for non-RIM hardware is almost ready to go?

Joerg Michael, 2008-07-29

Joerg, possible but unlikely. RIM has proven themselves time and again that they are unable to keep any secrets. It Virtual BB were ready, we would know it already.

Joel, you need BBC if you already have BBs in your company and do not want to deploy yet another infrastructure. Nokia has knocked themselves out of the market for BB alternatives.
