Public transport directions in Google Maps now on S60 & Windows Mobile
by Volker Weber
A few weeks ago we released Google Maps for mobile with Transit directions for BlackBerry and Java-based handsets. Now, with the release of version 2.2 of the application for Symbian S60 (3rd edition or later) and Windows Mobile (2005 or later), we're happy to say that Transit directions will be available to a bunch more smartphone users around the world.
Coverage in Germany: nil.

You're not alone in being hopeful for finding local transit and not being on the list. Boston and New York are not currently available either.
At least Zurich is; good to have a google centre in town.
I recommend Métro for this kind of information. It's a free application, supported on various platforms (the only significant one missing on the list may be UIQ3) and it's well maintained over the last years. It covers a vast number of cities and to my experience, the information is quite accurate. It can show you the shortest route or the one with the fewest connections. It doesn't have a time table of the lines, but to my experience that's less an issue in most local public transportations since the lines are served quite frequently.
Tried the Google Mobile Maps, it actually works for Basel as well. Apparently, having Google Research in Zurich helps all of Switzerland ;-)
