Tested: the new Lotus screensaver
by Volker Weber
Here at vowe's magic flying circus we test stuff so that you don't have to do it. So when I spotted this posting yesterday, there was a call to action: Benutzung auf eigene "Gefahr" - Use At Your Own Risk.
This turned out to be not so easy:
Can you spot the error? Hint: the error message shows a different file name than what I was looking for. Turns out the link text says:
http://connections.euluc.com/blogs/lotusgermany/resource/screensaver.zip
But the link points to:
http://connections.euluc.com/lotusgermany/resource/screensaver.zip
Well, so let's try the link text. Heureka:
The ZIP file contains a few directories and finally an executable:
\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\IBM-Lotus-Solutions-Installer.exe ? That sure looks like we need to run this on Windows:
An installer from IBM without an EULA? Cool. Now what does it do? It runs a fully buzzword-enabled Flash movie:
There you have it. No need to ask your administrator for write access to the program directory. Just watch the YouTube video.

The following link now worked for me:

based on this article:

Good. Now you can test it yourself. Although you really did not need to. :-)
It is unfortunate that IBM/Lotus don't put development resources to better use...
That's not development resources. The Flash player is generic, the messages are recycled. You just need some money and a freelancer who puts it together.
And a lot of conference calls. :-)
There are kits that let you convert a Flash movie to a screensaver, including branding and installer. It's a weeks work at the most to create the movie and put it all together.
bingo
Don't work on multi monitor system... Its only running on the 1st monitor.
