last.fm is cool stuff
by Volker Weber
I came to like last.fm a lot. If you let it "scrobble" your listening, it will build a library of what you like to hear. Then you can use a free application for iPhone/iPod touch to stream your library (or somebody elses) to your phone. Since last.fm also suggests similar music to you, it's a great way to discover stuff you don't yet know.

And if you user Vista ultimate (or Home Premium) a XBOX and a great little Software called MCEFM ( http://www.mcefm.com ) you can listen to your stream at Home on your Stereoequipment by choosing "similar to" your favorite Artists.
Do you actually listen to all that stuff when your music is running 24/7 or is it just to "pimp" your stats? But I have to agree, i love last.fm too, especially Mobbler on my Nokia N95.
Yes, music is running around the clock. I just mute when I don't want to hear it.
Thanks for the tipp! :)
That's the problem with stats - never let them influence your behavior. If you don't want to listen to music - don't! If you provide music at home all the time regardless of who cares or listens - do! Don't let stats change your behavior. I confess, I let them do it too often.
Using Last.fm on the Squeezebox, I find an option "Pandora" which looks like it takes me to a Pandora station of the same artist.
Does anybody know more about this option?
Generally I would rate Pandora over Last.fm. The selections look more sophisticated to me but that might be a personal opinion. Unfortunatelly they locked the service pretty strong for listeners outside the US.
Hey Volker
It's been 3 years since I last posted on your site (I hang my head in shame!!) but spotted that you've been contemplating on adding a lastfm widget... sooooo... I spotted a nice widget on the nialler9 site (king of Irish music bloggers) & thought you might be interested to give it a go - from what you can see on the right, it updates from twatter youtube lastfm etc. Haven't tried it myself to be fair.
Thought the idea interesting when I first saw it a while back. Not sure if there's others which do this sort of thing as I also use youtube alot?
Anyway, agree with you about lastfm. It's superb. I still use Myspace a great deal to pick up on new music... always interesting to see which bands are friends with which :) Crying shame about Muxtape too :( Really enjoyed that site when it was available.
Surprised I didn't spot more German music in your playlists? Anyone you'd recommend?? I saw The Poets of Rhythm recently & they blew my socks off. This is a live clip of them in Limerock (Ireland). White. Laying down the funk like that. Troopers. Hard to believe they're from Munich ;)
