Another nice music stream

by Volker Weber

Heiko sent me On heavy rotation.

That is the one feature I miss in To be able to account for the streams I hear, in some way or other. Maybe not the individual titles in the stream, as I have no influence on them, but the stream itself.

I listed some of my actual top Sonos radiostations in Last.FM's Sonos group:

Beach House Radio (USA)

Buzzoutroom (USA)

Sonica (Ibiza, Spain)

Global Radio (Ibiza, Spain)

Klassik Radio (Germany, tune in Mo - Sa 10.00 p.m - 01.00 a.m. GERMAN TIME!! for "Klassik Lounge" / "Klassik Lounge-Nightflight")

N-Joy (Germany, tune in Su 10.00 p.m. - 00.00 a.m. GERMAN TIME!! for Piet Blank (Blank & Jones) and Abstrait)

More to follow.

Hey Volker

I'm sure you know it ...or I might've mentioned it before ... we've got a radio station over here on digital (DAB) radio ... called Chill.

It's been available for a good long time on the internet -

I love the station. At night they play some wicked tracks. The only bummer is they don't display the track titles on the DAB radio, and you have to go to get the titles ... but they're a good few hours out of sync!

I was listening to it late last night while reading ... and they played a wicked kinda like bohemian harmony cover version of Boys Don't Cry (orig by The Cure) and it was so good, I had to text my friend to listen to it!!

Check it out and let me know whatcha think :-)

What is the url for the stream?

Volker Weber, 2008-09-16

Hey Volker

You access it via their webpage -

There's a "Listen Live" link at the top right. I think there is another stream URL but I'm not sure what it is .. just remember seeing it somewhere.

And that song is by Victor Malloy!

Mark Haller, 2008-09-16

No, I don't access anything through the browser. Has to work with Sonos, and that just needs the stream URL and no fancy websites.

Volker Weber, 2008-09-16

By the way, there is no "has to" :-) ... that's something you decided :-)

Mark Haller, 2008-09-16 ?

Does not work well. But thanks anyway.

My favorite is still Ibiza Sonica:

Volker Weber, 2008-09-16

@vowe: GOOD choice!! ;-)

Heiko Müller, 2008-09-16

Very nice sounds on the above VW / Heiko. Enjoyed listening.

Heard Four Tet / Kieran Hebden who is a particular favorite of mine.

I know I'm a wee bit biased towards dubstep now, but, after all, since Boxcutter (real name Barry Lynn) is from just outside Belfast, my home town, then I guess I'm bound to be a bit.

Don't just take my word for it.

Check out what Thom Yorke of Radiohead said about him on the mighty Pitchfork site here

Well enough of my yacking.... here's some free Boxcutter downloads for ya :)

1. Boxcutter: Glyphic mix for Radio 1 Experimental Show (Oct 2007) (Barry's second breezeblock set)

2. Boxcutter Live Set Nova Lyric FM [FILESHARE]

3. Boxcutter oneiric breezeblock session.mp3 (Barry's first breezeblock set) [FILESHARE]

4. Direct link to a 5 track ep from 1998 (check out Rhodes Draft!) on the free Belfast netlabel Acroplane

Coincidentally enough, he also played support to Kraftwerk - minus Florian :( - when they were over here at the weekend.

Hope you enjoy!!

Vincent Grant, 2008-09-16

Dude ... this is all new stuff to me. What's Dubstep? And Boxcutter?

Four Tet, I know and like! .. but the others!!!???
