Looks like somebody fiddled with the server. Well, if the store goes down at Apple.com you can expect new products. :-)

I think they are celebrating Columbus day, as paxos.lotus.com is also down with the same useless error message.

What do you expect when Mac Guidera gets a promotion. His team revolted :-)

Maybe I missed something - is greenhouse a store platform ? Can't remember. Shouldn't it be a place to test new technology with a broader audience ? So what's the problem here ? Maybe an upgrade ?

When it comes back online we can both have a look what the purpose of Greenhouse is. Me thinks it's a site where IBM demonstrates its capabilities to customers. So yes, maybe it is an upgrade. Maybe the upgrade is taking longer than expected.

Personally, I doubt it. If this would be a planned outage, you would put up a maintenance notice.

According to Google's cache of the Greenhouse home page,

"Lotus Greenhouse is a live community website where you can use Lotus Collaboration Products for free! Join the community to exchange ideas, collaborate with others, and share information on innovation and collaborative products."

Very simple reason: There was a power outage at the according server facility. While the power was only out for a short period of time, when it came back one core services switch on the network stopped working / got damaged. It has high priority to get solved and should be back online very soon.

And yes -Greenhouse is a free service hosted by IBM for testing different kind of IBM Lotus tools such as Quickr, Connections, Sametime, DWA and others.

Thank you for the inside scoop.

I am surprised that IBM has power outages in their data centers, even in their minor ones. There are established practices to prevent those.

Volker Weber, 2008-10-14

Server facility was probably the wrong term. Greenhouse is not running in a separate "data center" as "sever facility" may have indicated.

You can be sure that other things are backed up against power outages and IBM's knows how to prevent those :-) But for the Greenhouse environment 24/7 availability is not guaranteed and the users are aware of that.

Both systems are back online in the meantime and should work again.
