It's "Make your own caption" time

Update: the bike has not been stolen. Today it leans against a different pole and in a silghtly different fashion. Looks like the lock works just fine. A few meters away there are real flag poles though.

That lock will never stop someone from stealing that pole..
Looks photoshopped.
No way, baby. Shot it myself tonight.
Keep your pet names to yourselves guys... sheesh ;)
They'll NEVER get it past the invisible force field barrier at the top of this ordinary looking pole...

This bike is not even worth to steal or rather to lock up.
A fool with a tool is still a fool.

Well, the idea is that if you steal the bike by lifting it over the pole and then try to ride away, the lock will be in the way of the pedals, thus you will crash and injure yourself badly. Then, when the owner comes back and you're still lying on the ground, he will finish you off with that exact same lock. :-)
Of course, after lifting the bike over the pole, you may have enough power left to lift the lock away from the pedals...
Still, most "thieves" in Darmstadt would not be able to steal it.
You have all missed the most obvious bit - it's not worth stealing as someone as already taken the engine.
There's nothing new under the sun.
Security by obscurity. It does work. Ask Microsoft ... uhmmm ... no, that's just too easy...

It's obvious - the bike owner has lost the key.
