Apple releases OS X 10.5.6
by Volker Weber
Some interesting fixes:
- Addresses an issue that could prevent Mail from quitting.
- Contacts, calendars, and bookmarks on a Mac automatically sync within a minute of the change being made on the computer, another device, or the web at me.com.
- Addresses inaccuracies with Calculator when the Mac OS X language is set to German or Swiss German.
- Several security updates
Ladies and gentlemen, update your engines.

Dumb Mac Question - where does this installer go? Can you delete the download after the installation is complete?
Oh my Paul, you're thinking like a PC person! Mac users don't care at all about any details of where files go, how they're installed, etc. It all just "happens", and everything is fine. ;-)
Sorry I could not resist!
Now, I hope someone answers your question, because I'd also like to know. (plus where are all the other installers I've downloaded over the months)
Alan, it just happens.
Paul, hit Software Update on the Apple menu. It will then do its thing.
Guys... I have already updated. I know I'm still thinking "PC" here, but I have downloaded an update (Like I have done soooo many times for MS office for Mac). There must be a package file or an update file somewhere that is no longer needed after you complete the install? If so, can you safely delete them?
I still find my Mac chewing disk space and I never know why. Now I have 100Gb in VM's and another 80 Gb data. But on average I lose 1GB a week to a "?".
Paul, I was joking, since I've asked similar questions a dozen times, and been told how I am wrong to care about such things. Here is the most detailed article I've found.
My Library\Updates folder is only 241 MB, so no alarms there.
My Library\Receipts folder is 460 MB, so nothing too bad there either. (plus we should not remove anything in there anyway)
Its ok Alan... We do sarcasm and irony in Europe ;)
But, like yourself (with a technical background) it something that niggles at me. I do understand that Mac is aimed at consumer and power consumer (and i love it) but i still wonder.
In addition to Paul & Alan:
The My Library\Receipts folder is crucial for the repair permissions and system update functionality. So stay well away from it!
It's Alan who likes to "manage" files. :-)
Was this calculator inaccuracy thing something that is fixed for Germans and Swiss-Germans only, because they were the only ones to complain about it?
The software update did not work for me (MBP intel 10.5.5). It downloaded then was stuck on a 'configuring update' screen for an eternity. I tried it a couple of times, same outcome. Downloading the combo update from the Apple site installed fine http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_6_Combo_Update
