Critical: Security Update for Internet Explorer

by Volker Weber

Fix your Internet Explorer now:

This security update resolves a publicly disclosed vulnerability. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted Web page using Internet Explorer. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.

This security update is rated Critical for Internet Explorer 5.01, Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1, and Internet Explorer 7.

Thank you - here is a direct link for the download (German IE7 on XP).

While not immune, wouldn't a link to this be a better solution? ;-)

Gregg Eldred, 2008-12-17

Yes, it would. But some people are not ready to migrate. :-)

Well, everyone can do what they want, but for me personally there clearly is no advantage in using IE, only disadvantages. Nothing to worry about in my household.

Firefox is even worse if we can belive Chip Online:

Time to by a mac.

Christian Tillmanns, 2008-12-18

@ Samuel
... but the damage is donne. That report is on a lot of new sites right now.
A lot of people will believe this. Who knows, the report could have been asked and paid for by someone who does not like firefox. Things like that have happend in the past.

... and my reason to move to a mac is not firefox, neither safari.

@Christian: And a lot of readers have complained about the article: An update has been posted that puts the numbers into perspective.
