Somebody is telling you to take a break

What is this frigging obsession with gmail downtime?
Fear. Uncertainty. Doubt.
Blogging about twitter is like dieting by eating pound cake.
@Ben - Well, there are certainly Notes/Domino customers who are wondering why they should spend oodles of cash for Domino licenses if they can just use Gmail for mail. So, IBMers tend to focus quite heavily on these outages, as they are the best possible answer to the question.
Email is over rated.
Ben, they better come up with something better really quickly. Because this one is not going to fly better than the "Notes is easy to buy" story.
I had to double-check the date upon reading the "Notes is easy to buy" story and comments; they give the impression of having been written a decade ago.
I think it is a bit short-sighted that Google Apps is always reduced to cost.
Google Apps is very competitive in the mobile device area, has an easy to understand pricing model and is using real open standards. In many ways it is an alternative approach to traditional software vendors in the collaboration space. I am not saying it is better than IBM or Microsoft but just different in many ways. Maybe it will even start to hurt now that IBM has given up the classic Notes environment leaving thousands of customers in a situation where their current infrastructure besides mail is not moving anywhere. If you want to move forward you have to invest in new technologies like Composite Applications or XPages. That is not bad at all but it may lead to a point where customers are comparing alternatives.
By the way. My IBM Lotus Workplace messaging license renewal price in 2005 was 6,82 EUR (for 1 year).
