Installing Brightkite Beta on Android

by Volker Weber

Techcrunch has instructions. And it's quite an experience. First step is to use Barcode Scanner to read the URL from the screen:

bkandroidinstall1

This will extract the URL from the QR Code:

bkandroidinstall2

Which then instructs the browser to download the package:

bkandroidinstall3

Almost there, just let the phone install the package:

bkandroidinstall4

bkandroidinstall5

There we are:

bkandroidinstall6

Looks like a marketing gag to me. It's just a url. Other sites just make the image itself clickable: see in the upper left corner
That way you can just launch it from your phone.

Of course. But what would you do if you are reading the site on your computer? Well, you could type in this short URL. But I find it kind of neat to just point your phone at the screen.

True.

QR Codes are a nice thing. Seldom used in germany, but they are nice. On the iPhone i use NeoReader to read them.

Standard in Japan for quite some time...

But there most people use their ketai (mobile phone) for Internet access.
