3.5 mm or bust
by Volker Weber
By now, I consider a 3.5 mm headphone jack a must have for any smartphone. Good: BlackBerry Bold, Storm, 8900, iPhone 3G(S), Nokia 86 8MP. Not good: Android G1, Nokia Eseries before E75, original iPhone (recessed).
I have not seen any recent phone without this feature. It is catching on, much like charging over USB.

Full ACK, Volker. I think we will not be disappointed in the future. I wonder how HTC could hold it up so long, must be because their devices are great in other terms.
Even Nokia puts both (3.5mm audio, usually even AV and (micro)USB-changring) on all newer devices. So we should be safe ;)
You like the N86? It is supposed to be the 'real' N95 successor.
Very much so. And it was not on my radar since it lacks another must hast feature: QWERTY keyboard. I like it anyway.
Maddeningly, the Sony Ericsson Aino, a brand new phone, still uses that silly Ericsson "fast port." Drives me crazy.
Are there mini USB to 3.5mm adapters/converters on the market?
I already need an adapter to use my headphones on the proprietary port of my SE K750i or on an airplane, I wouldn't mind getting another adapter for an HTC smartphone.
OF course, having a 3.5mm port on the phone directly would be the better option.
Ja, gibt es. Siehe die G1 threads auf vowe.net.
Danke. :)
