PicPosterous posts your iPhone photo immediately

by Volker Weber

The new Posterous iPhone app removes all the friction with posting photos and video online. PicPosterous is designed to be a replacement for the Camera app on your phone, posting photo sets and video to your Posterous site *live, as you take them*.

If you want to make a fool of yourself by posting all the photos you shoot, your life has just become easier.

This will be great for democracy on the one hand. No more will officials be able to seize your images. On the other hand it creates some risks as well.

PP=PicPosterous

Just to put that into perspective:
Yes, every photo that's taken with PP is published, but by default to some temporary space at Posterous. (Like this)
No, it's not automagically pasted to your Posterous blog. This can be changed, of course.

In fact, the default option for PP is to save the picture to someplace at Posterous where the user can pick it up later (or not) and move it to his/her blog (or not).

What I like best is the fact that you can take pictures as always (with the iPhone camera app) and *later* deceide which ones to *upload* with PP (yes, PP loads from the camera roll as well). That way, PP is nothing more than an uploader for my blog. And a good one at that!

What I would like to know though, is what Posterous does with pictures that are not claimed. Their FAQ says nothing about it.
Will they eventually be deleted? I've written them about this and would post an answer, if I get one. For the time being, I'll check now and then on the posted picture above to see how long it will be available.

Update:

According to Posterous (each uploaded picture is a site of iself in their vocabulary):
"... We don't have an official policy on this. But sites that haven't been claimed for months will probably be removed eventually ..."
