Unfortunately there are human beings switching off their brains when entering a car. Actually I would now talk about Darwin and so on but those idiots always tear up lives of innocent people, I'm afraid.
Besides: here in Poland there 143 deaths per milion inhabitants caused by traffic accidents (i.e. about 5800 p.a.). This is one of the highest rates in Europe.

Mein Führerschein liegt seit 9 Jahren im Kreisverwaltungsreferat. Gestohlen, neu machen lassen aber aus Faulheit nie abgeholt. Das einzig ärgerliche ist die Tatsache das Mietwagen ohne den Lappen nur schwer zu bekommen sind.
Meine letzte richtige Personenkontrolle war vor ca. 15 Jahren. Wenn die Polizei kontrolliert tut sie das meistens auf kerzengerader Strasse mit einem Autokorso im absoluten Halteverbot und viel Blaulicht. So lassen sich Kontrollen bereits aus der Entfernung erkennen (wenn der durch die Kontrollen verursachte Stau nicht bereits Warnung genug ist).
Mein Punkt ist. Ich könnte jeden Tag sturzbesoffen durch München fahren und zumindest die Polizei würde mich wohl nicht daran hindern. Wenn doch dann stehen sie, ähnlich wie bei den Geschwindigkeitsmessungen, immer an den selben langweiligen Stellen.
Wenn ich Alkohol getrunken habe dann lasse ich das Auto inzwischen trotzdem stehen. Heute ärgere ich mich sehr über mein damaliges Verhalten und kann nur heilfroh sein dass dies für mich immer ohne direkte Konsequenzen geblieben ist.
Meine Güte, das ginge bei mir nicht als Faulheit durch.

Just showed this film my kids an their friends ... a bunch of teenagers ... 2 of them are car drivers the others have Vespas! They had tears in their eyes and discussed it with me over the last 20 minutes! I wasn't the last time we spoke about this.
