I'm afraid they have to come across that website themselves.

not quite sure what you mean... They do not want to pay for the advice?

Never is a pessimistic word. Some people just need a nudge in the right direction and go on their own then. Granted, the vast majority of people are not in this category.

Andrew, you'd be happy to get a thank you note.

€0,10 advice to calendaring issues with notes: get rid of it.
1) they will never get it 100% right ("right", as in iCal, Google Calendar,...)
2) if they get it at least 80% right, they'll introduce some bug or feature set (which somehow equals for Lotus Development *cough*) and fuck it up in a way previously unthought of

Got it.

And yes, you are right. I freelance as third-level support, and when I solve problems for end-users perhaps 5% write back to say "Yes, thankyou, it works now".

Actually, the more you charge, the more likely you are to get feedback.

True, and you are treated more respectfully and taken less for granted.

It's a bit strange.

What's also strange, in general, is this false sense of entitlement on the web. And that some feel others owe them something.
And in particular, I feel confident that the questioner feels like you owe him an answer and you otherwise are selfish.
