A little something from Nokia

NOKIA_DC-11

After all, Nokia had a nice Xmas present, to the first ten people who sent seasons greetings: an Extra Power DC-11. You charge it with a standard (small round plug) Nokia charger, which is not included. And the device itself will give you one extra charge of your mobile, either through the same plug, or through microUSB, the new standard port for all devices. The only thing it is missing: the DC-11 itself cannot be charged through microUSB.

In any case, this is a keeper. It not only charges a Nokia phone, but also other devices using a microUSB or a Nokia 2 mm charging interface. Very handy for a Palm Pre for instance.

What is so cool about something you wouldn´t have to lug around, had they used a sensible plug for charging their bricks in the first instance is beyond me. My last Nokia 'smartphone' (duh) which I use as alarm clock only (w/o SIM card installed), the late 9300i is plugged into the wall all the time, and the other one, even more lovely 6310i is constantly in its cradle in the car. The only different chargere I am taking on my trips is the one for the divine Altec Lansing Backbeat (whose only flaw is a non-standard charger, but it is so much better than any BT headset, ever).

What is so cool about an external battery pack to recharge any microUSB device when away from power outlets? Did not think I had to explain that.

I understand the virtue - and it is of less weight/cost than a MacBook Pro, but that I carry anyway :-)

The new battery formula Apple applies in its 'books serves me very well and I can spare some energy from it, in case of dire need.

Have a great new year celebration, Volker.
