Sonos Controller for Android

There is a new project on Google Code: Andronos. You can download it to your device from the Android Market.

This is the first shot at a Sonos controller running on Android. It's still very rough compared to the other Sonos controllers, but hey, it works. The strange part is that you don't have to register it with your Sonos system. And the players still talk to it.

Sonos, please be gentle when you tell the developer he can't use your icon. :-)

[Thanks, Axel]

Or better yet Sonos, hire the developer and give him the resources to build an official and fully-featured controller for Android.

Always nice to see some alternatives. Do you know any alternatives to the desktop controller? I'd love a table view and search by title.

Rating and statistics would be awesome, but I don't know how this could be implemented without Sonos' support.

It is possible without Sonos's support. There has been a web server for instance that let you control Sonos from a browser. It's UPnP.

Volker Weber, 2010-01-14

Awesome. Will download it right now.

Mariano Kamp, 2010-01-14

Controlling is feasible, but statistics and ratings are not. A server would have to be constantly running to keep track of titles played and to store ratings. That's an awkward solution.

It would be nice if Sonos provided meta data storage and kept track of title play counts. It would open the door for a lot of advances features like a "least recently played" playlist.

Timo, I am sooo happy that you are not the product manager. :-)

Volker Weber, 2010-01-14

I honestly think you would enjoy my regime :-)

Statistics and ratings seem to be unobtrusive, useful features in the haystack of iTunes and I miss them in the Sonos Controller... Not okay to dream a little?

Timo Stamm, 2010-01-15

Timo, those are some of the features I miss too, and they are among the reasons I started Andronos in the first place. My plan is to base most of the dynamic stuff on last.fm, and the latest version already supports marking tracks as loved on last.fm - soon I'll make dynamic playlists for recently played and loved songs, and hopefully I'll also be able to make automatically populated playlists based on last.fm suggestions.
Of course this will all be Andronos-specifik, but it's better than nothing.

Yeah, Timo as product manager! There are way too many omissions in the sonos product.

I was confident ratings or something similar would be part of the package when I first started buying Sonos stuff. Now, I have so gotten used to this oldish featureset but I weep a little tear when I think of what I thought Sonos would be... ;-)

I have a symbian. How about that? No? Aw well....

BTW requiring full name is ridiculous. Like airport safety screening...

I have been using this sftw since it came out. It lacks some features, but is a great quick solution for droid. Thanks to the creator!

While this is and old post, I expect the project to get a strong interest as android and chrome os tablets appear.

Sonos is hiring an Android developer. ;-)
