Interesting observation:
One of the things you discover in studying the history of patent use among many companies is that when they're young, they innovate. When they're old, they litigate.

I don't think that's true of individuals though, interestingly.
Obviously can't go into details or name names, but I suggest that as an aphorism it would be truer of the /size/ of a company, than its age - older companies just happen to be bigger as well as more arthritic.
Whereas the real inventors, just keep inventing.
