Just the usual Symbian nightmare

by Volker Weber

Trying to load Facebook on the E71 with latest firmware. There is no icon. Go to Ovi Store. Facebook for E71 is listed under My Stuff. Download button grayed out. Look in App Manager. There is Facebook Installer. Cannot open Facebook Installer from anywhere. Remove Facebook installer from App Manager. Go to Ovi Store again. Download button no longer grayed out. Download. Install fails. Download button grayed out.

User explodes.

Hi Volker, as a suggestion, install the snaptu package application from

http://m.snaptu.com

It has an alternative free Facebook application. You can see some screenshots here:

Hope it can be helpful.

Albert, I just installed the maps on the N900. I just don't understand Nokia anymore. This is all broken beyond repair.

And after you eventually get it installed, you find out that all it seems to do is to invoke the browser loading the URL "m.facebook.com". So, I actually simply have that as a bookmark.

Opera Mobile 10 Installation - same story, same solution: goto m.opera.com and install it from there ...

well, for correctness, last time I looked at the "Facebook app" is at least a year ago. So just out of curiosity, I tried the Ovi Store's Facebook app again and it now is a native app. But still not much better then the mobile web UI...

Update: this morning the native Facebook app reports an invalid API key... :-/ Needless to say, the browser link to the mobile web GUI still works as designed...
