Apple makes Facetime available on the Mac

Apple has a free Facetime beta for the Mac. You can call other Macs or iOS devices. You need to login with your Apple ID and password, and then Apple sends you a mail to verify that ID. Did not work for me, since id.apple.com is overloaded on the https port. If you are on a safe network, just remove the s and call the site on the http port.

There is one upside: video calls to people on the go. Will get really useful once it drops the Wi-Fi requirement.

picture quality from two macs i tried (imac 2009 and macbook air 1st gen.) was much worse than from the iphone 4.
