AnandTech :: The Windows Phone 7 Review

by Volker Weber

There's a lot of good to say about Windows Phone 7. ... And unlike previous Microsoft OS launches, there’s no caveat necessary. Windows Phone 7 is both functional and attractive.

Anand and Brian post the ultimate Windows Phone 7 review. I agree with most of their findings. And while you read it, the apps come drizzling in. Twitter, Facebook, Last.fm, Adobe Reader, Yelp, the list goes on and on.

Ladies and gentlemen, Microsoft has a winner.

Really not wanting to bitch around, but after reading the article regarding WP7 in the current c't magazine I can hardly understand the hype around it.

With regards to the article it seems to be somewhere at iPhone OS 2 functionality. No multitasking, no sensible bluetooth support (only Audio), no filesystem access, (no copy paste, just why? This is nothing to implement!), no existing ecosystem, no compatibility with anything, no applications but restrictions for the developers.

Please somebody tell me what I missed? Volker, will you bring one with you? Would love to have a look.

Yes, I will bring one.

Did you read the review I am linking to? The authors do a good job at explaining what you missed.

Forgive the cynicism, but I'm just back from the task of ridding an office of a pernicious virus infestation: do you reckon that Windows Phone 7 is going to be any more secure than Windows 7?

Or are we going to see entire networks of phones going down as soon as the world's timewasters find and exploit the first insecurities in the OS?

Nick Daisley, 2010-10-24

@Nick, I would assume from your comment that it was a Windows 7 vulnerability, not an application like - say - Java or Flash - that was the vector for the infection?
