Ovi Maps for mobile v3.06

December 2, 2010: HOT NEWS! With this release, you are now able to download Street Maps directly to your phone without a PC!
Great feature since it allows you to work without the maps loader. You need to be connected to Wi-Fi, but that is the only way I would want to use it anyway. If you tap on Update, you get to your current maps overview where you can search for map updates or add maps. Let's choose Americas/USA/California, Download and then find it in the overview: (half size)
Remember, this comes free with your Nokia phone. Including downloadable maps that don't cost you a thing when you are roaming, and of course turn-by-turn instructions for driving or walking. And there is no DRM nonsense like with your TomTom.

Leider gibt's keine Unterstützung für das N82 ("not supported in this release"). Das ist umso ärgerlicher, als die OS X-Variante des Map Loaders nicht funktioniert.
I really can not tell how much I love OVI Maps plus the steady improvements it is making :)
That is really the one thing that I miss most since switching to Android. I actually took my E71 with me onto a US/Canada trip only for the Ovi Maps.
Wann kommt das endlich für Nokia N96? Das Handy war ja nicht gerade billig, aber da wird die Navigation nicht und nicht nachgeliefert. :-(

Ich würde mich ja gerne über das Update freuen, aber das Kartenmaterial für Thailand ist grottenschlecht, deshalb habe ich neben dem N8 immer noch mein gutes altes N82 im Einsatz. Da ist noch Nokia Maps 2.0 drauf, und das ist wirklich Spitze! Ovi Maps hat z.B. für Phuket nur etwa 70% der Straßen, und von den vorhandenen sind etliche einfach falsch benannt. Wenn nur die Feedbackseite für Map-Fehler besser wäre, dann könnte man da ja nachhelfen...
