Sack Reis in Amerika?
by Volker Weber

I think that this is a big deal; it's been rumored for quite some time. It will also be interesting to see how it affects the Android share, Verizon was a really big proponent of Droid, as they didn't have iPhone.
From what I've read today, Verizon customers simply want an iPhone. CDMA, apparently, was the easiest to get out the door to them. They say that there will be other versions "later." The CNET FAQ has some good content.
Gregg, the US is a relatively small market with an "interesting" mix of technologies. A CDMA iPhone may be a big deal in that market, but not worldwide. You will find that your dynamics don't work here or in Asia at all.
The CDMA version is a hot- fix now that the iPhone is free. LTE is not implemented enough yet in the US I suppose and the voice part is not sorted out in a good way yet I think...
By the way, it is amazing how the US market always goes for something different. When you have a quadband GSM phone you should be fine. Now we have 5 UMTS frequencies already, ain't that 'smart'! I would not be surprised if voice for 4G would turn out to be yet another 'we do it different'.
It is interesting to watch the news for 4G and rollout plans, when working for TeliaSonera myself (but not for the Mobility part of the company).
Please notice that also some other "small" parts of the world have CDMA networks in place: China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, India, Indonesia, Brazil, Australia, etc.
And for these markets it is also big news to get a CDMA iPhone.
Well, UMTS/HSPA are CDMA as well. Just not Verizon's version.
