Year after year, there is the C.U.L.T. shirt, the Certified Unofficial Lotusphere T-shirt, which I usually don't like much. This year however, there was something else. A Small Lotus World, originally developed by the London Developer Co-op, better known as Matt White, Ben Poole, Mark "The Wookie" Myers, Rob Wills, Julian Woodward, and Kieran Green. Since Matt works with Bruce Elgort for Elguji, Bruce took the idea one step further, raising $3500 for charity. The main price was an autographed and framed copy of this artwork.
There is so much funny detail in this artwork, that I give you a full resolution PNG to look at. With clearance from the people mentioned above. Try to spot characters from the yellow bubble and post in the comments whom you found. ;-)
I give you two: Matt White wields a whip in the Learn XPages yard, and Mark Myers rides a bike with a yellow tank.
Paul Mooney flies his own airplane at the upper left.
just so people know the artist is www.armyoftrolls.co.uk
Chris Miller is interviewing at the left side of his SpikeStudios van. And Julian Robichaux is in front of his Tapas...ehm...topless bar. ;-)
Cool, your inverted logo next between a solar collector and a satellite dish ! Any hidden messages there, can someone interpret this ?
Not sure, but maybe Ben Langhinrichs is repainting his own MIDAS ad on top of iED's building.
And there is Francie losing her luggage from Paul's jet.
I'm sure Kitty and I are in there somewhere.... just can't work out what might relate to us... ;-)
Le-go? :-) Who can spot Ben Poole?
no doubt he will be having a party somewhere, maybe even a (poolparty)
Duffbert rides near wookie Mark. The bike with the (red|pink) tank.
Pool(e) party, that gives it away. The naked guy in front, being chased by the police.
Two more: right of the LONDON tower is blue man Carl Tyler, in front of the tower is Mary Beth, blond hair, glasses, yellow shirt, throwing a frisbee.
Hm, the bold head teaching Xpages: Stephan Wissel ? But the character here looks angry, so may be I am wrong.
No that is Matt White, one of the two I gave away.
Why are they air dropping @akafrancie's luggage to Elguji?
Great to see the podcasters doing our thing ;-)
Enjoying the 'tempest in a tea-cup', but wondering who the fighters are?
Its Matt White teaching xPages. There are apparently 49 gags in this picture, and I'm surprised that some of the more obvious ones haven't been spotted yet ;-)
I lay claim to Wild Bills Strip Joint, of course.
My favorite is the three podcasts interviewing each other - that was brilliant.
I am in the picture - but the reference that they used isn't on my blog any more. I should be annoyed, but it's a great picture and I am just happy to be included. I was one of the lucky ones who won an original print (I got one of the smaller ones) and just honored to help raise money for a good cause.
sorry - the 'i should be annoyed' comment was supposed to have a :-) with it ... ha!
Come on, John, be annoyed, otherwise it's no fun.
John is the giant brown starfish sucking up to iED'S, which is obviously a reference to Ed Brill. Maybe he wants a successful app store as well. :-)
There are certainly a lot of "adult" stores for such a small town!
I don't see a character on the other side, but I'd like to think Mary Beth is throwing the frisbee to me ;-)
No one mentioned it before:
vowe's own communication centre in the center of the picture...
I am trying to figure out who the pretty woman shopping at my store is, why my store has palm trees, and which one is me :-o
Darn, and I was hoping to see a guy with a Dr. House cane... ;-)
If it helps anyone, the design was done by Ben Poole and I with the help of lots of beer and via an artist who knows nothing of the lotus world, the only conspiracy in it, is that the LDC building bigger than it has a right to be, nothing is designed to be offensive only iconic
and yes we forgot a lot of people we should have put in (xcast, pedro etc etc), perhaps group can contact the artist and do one next year to address the mistakes?
We aren't even done with the people in the picture. Come on guys, I give you turtles ...
My face is the "Storm in a tea cup" and the Websphere purple dinosaur.
Myself and Steve McD are in there .. look for the small hikers ( one is blonde .. ))
Are the bees near the websphere dino a reference to yellow and black bag toting LS attendees?
Well-spotted Mr. Rainey :-)
How is it that vowe and London Developer Co-op are able to provide hi-res images of their stuff and IBM cannot? :-)
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Jake's Ye Olde Codstore
Gregg, we care. :-)
Vaughn's in the back of the blue ambulance right? ;)
Spotted Kathy running outside the music emporium
Colin - Good spots!
Eileen is that us outside ELGUJI towers?
I was told I was the girl running, but I think Mark was just saying that to any female with brown hair. ;-)
Lot of adult stores, Is it a "Notes" city or "Sin" city ? :P
The Lego building is a ref to a passion of Warren Elsmore
The rockstar shop can be a ref to two people: Rob Novak & Rocky Oliver
Mark Myers has a sexy java store and is riding a bike next to Ed's store.
Ack! You gave the Wookie away! So focused on tghe image forgot to read the first comment.
