Gingerbread finally on Nexus One

If you can't wait for the OTA push, you can still download Gingerbread for your Nexus One and install it over USB. Took me about ten minutes start to finish.

Get the new boot loader HBOOT 0.35 and Gingerbread 2.3.3. First apply the boot loader. To do that, copy the zip file as update.zip to your phone over USB. Power down, hold volume down and power on, with volume buttons scroll down to "recovery" and press power button, at the attention sign press volume up and power, from the menu select "Apply sdcard:update.zip" with track ball, reboot when finished. Now start all over again with Gingerbread.

Thanks Volker! One speed bump I encountered was, you need to press power THEN up to apply the update. The Internet told me that.

Doesn't work! At the attention sign, pressing volume up and power does nothing. Perhaps because I have a SFR Nexus One?

It's like shift-power. Hold volume up, then also press power.

Doesnt's work for my phone either. Nothing happens at the attention sign. Had to remove the battery to restart. Seems to be the old Vodafone Nexus One game ...

Thanks - works like a charme, as usual!

Are you still using your BB 9700 as well? Which firmware version? Need to upgrade because of the poor browser implementation in 5.xx

Sascha Langfus, 2011-02-25

I am using the official Vodafone firmware.

doesn't work for me either. "signature verification failed. Installation aborted"
The Boot Loader update works fine. But the installation of gingerbread failed, sadly on my nexus.

Karl Heindel, 2011-02-25

The update is from FRG83G. I suspect your device has a different version. I think you will have to bite the bullet one day and flash an official Google version to get out of this loop.

Volker Weber, 2011-02-25

Gasp! my build number is FRG83D and I got "signature verification failed" too.

Patrick REBONDY, 2011-02-26

guess I got it. I have a german vodafon device and that does not work. You have to unlock it first and than you can, after changing the boot image, install the original google nexus rom.

So, that's to much for me and I'm going to wait for the official release.
