Google to Acquire Motorola Mobility

Given Android’s phenomenal success, we are always looking for new ways to supercharge the Android ecosystem. That is why I am so excited today to announce that we have agreed to acquire Motorola.

On a related note: I went to the SingTel shop and hands on compared the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" tablet with the Motorola Xoom and concluded that the Xoom was at least one generation ahead. Felt good in the hand.
I think this bodes well for the Android platform, and the entire smartphone ecosystem. With Motorola, Google will have a platform to showcase their reference designs. So long as they keep the other partners happy and don't give their new in-house hardware guys stuff before they release it to other manufacturers, it should help the platform move forward from the fragmented mess it can appear to be today.
