Daimler Case Study

As you may know, Daimler AG has decided to dump Lotus Notes for the Microsoft stack. People have been scratching their heads to understand the decision. After all, Daimler is heavily invested in Notes apps that will not be migrated to the Microsoft platform.

Microsoft has promised to publish the case study, and last week, I got several links to the videos. And I am quite disappointed. But see for yourself.

You don't have to install Silverlight, even if Microsoft suggests you should. Just play the WMV files.

Must be around 15 years ago when I was part of the team that migrated Daimler from Exchange to Notes. Maybe I should keep my calender free for 2026 ... for another huge migration project - back to Notes then? ;-)

Both companies use the same words.. They will pay big, lose. They talk like IBM does not have any of this. Could it be that the parent company is MS$?

Does everybody have his buzzword bingo cards ready?

I am quite surprised that the C-Level of Daimler is participating in such a video. I don't think the other videos have more unique content, do they?

Looking at the video's title image I ask myself:
A well filled bookshelf in the background used to make its owner look wise and knowledgeable. Is that still true for a CIO in the year of the 99€ Kindle?

Who says that the apps should survive? They run a one-size-fits-all strategy AFAIK. Common practice these days. One Monday morrning in the future you will come to your desk and find it migrated. Period. Your mails and your address-book will survive. Not more, not less. If you really, really, REALLY need your app back you can DIY or file for a app migration to sharepoint. As a seperate project with funding and all that stuff. Big win for operations team, I guess. Maybe thats the reason why the infrastructure boss is shown on the video an not his application counterpart. And the user? He will come to terms with it. As always. BTW: pause the video and take a closer look at the screenshots. Among other things the names are blurred.
