Nokia Lumia 800 coming next week

by Volker Weber

I should have a Nokia Lumia 800 next week for a real life test. So far I have only played with it in the Nokia World exhibition.

Hardware very similar to N9. Beautiful, very nice to hold in your hand. Plus: camera key launches camera from locked state. Minus: no front facing camera. I like Windows Phone. And it's very fast on this beast.

Must have, but it seems to be extremely thin (1.2mm). I'm scared that this phone will break stored in my pocket, a typical added value for a cell phone.

Unlikely. I have the N9 which is basically the same body. It is extremely solid.

Volker Weber, 2011-10-27

well, if the body is metal (aluminium?), breaking it should be rather difficult. ireally hope for nokia that this phone kicks a.. a lot.

Why should it be faster on this phone? As far as I understood, the hardware is the sam eon all phones due to microsoft?!

1.4 GHz statt 1 GHz

And the iPhone4s is only clocked with 2*800 MHz - the new 1.4 GHz single cores should give it a good run for the money.

Nokia tells me that this phone is 1.2mm (millimeter) thick... See this link.

Boudewijn Kiljan, 2011-10-27

You are a smart guy. You know how to translate.

Volker Weber, 2011-10-27

Nokia tells me that this phone is 1.2mm (millimeter) thick.

And, according to the link, it is only 6.1 mm wide. Amazing technology which fits a 3.7" display in a 6.1 mm phone.

I know that you like WIndows phone but for me Nokia is sacrificing the better platform (MeeGo). I am not at all a smartphone guy but the N9 would have been my new device. Personally I still hope that Nokia will consist of more Ahtisaari than Elop but I am not so optimistic about it. Windows Phone does not attract me at all.

How about Lotus Traveler 8.5.3 support? There is none..

Jorma Heikkuri, 2011-10-27

IBM just delivered support for the N8. That was last year's Nokia hero device. Nobody has told them that they want Windows Phone 7 support. They are only doing what their customers tell them.

Imagine they had done full ActiveSync support. Before people want more than an iPhone.

Volker Weber, 2011-10-27

So what, I will just go for it, knowing that Nokia will have the one I really want in early 2012 :)
