New iPad as a Personal Hotspot
by Volker Weber
My iPad received a provider update this morning, and suddenly it can be used as a Personal Hotspot. Apple says:
Personal Hotspot refers to the Internet-sharing feature on iPhone 3GS or later* and iPad (3rd generation) Wi-Fi + Cellular.
If a 3GS is powerful enough, I wonder why you need a 3rd generation iPad for this feature.

Why this couldn't work with an older iPad is a good question. Could be something to do with heat dissipation patterns that don't play well with the internal layout of the device.
I will say that the bigger battery in the iPad makes it the first truly practical mobile hotspot, but they don't call it a *hot*spot for nothing.
