Which iOS 6 features will get your iOS-6-capable device get?
by Volker Weber
Apple says: "Features are subject to change. Not all features are available on all devices." Here is a list compiled from the fineprint of this page:
- Flyover and turn-by-turn navigation will be available only on iPhone 4S and iPad 2 or later.
- Siri will be available only on iPhone 4S and iPad (3rd generation) and requires Internet access.
- Shared Photo Streams requires iOS 6 on iPhone 4 or later or iPad 2 or later, or a Mac computer with OS X Mountain Lion.
- FaceTime over a cellular network requires iPhone 4S or iPad (3rd generation) with cellular data capability.
- VIP list and VIP and Flagged smart mailboxes will be available on iPhone 4 or later and iPad 2 or later.
- Offline Reading List will be available on iPhone 4 or later and iPad 2 or later.
And also consider this stern warning: "Carrier data charges may apply." Some carriers charge you extra for your Personal Hotspot. I can see them doing the same for FaceTime, since that feature cuts into their revenue stream. "FaceTime is not available in all countries." See?
If you want to be safe, you need an A5 chip. And if you are on a 3GS or original iPad, it's time to make your move now, before everybody understands what's going on.
